Burgeoning real estate team. We are delighted to announce the appointment of James Burgess as a partner in the real estate team. James is a property lawyer of very considerable experience and is highly regarded by clients and property professionals in the Thames Valley and beyond. A partner with Pitmans for 17 years, James brings to FSP his renowned expertise in all areas of commercial property. Also joining us from Pitmans is Daniel York who will be working with James in the real estate team. With the recruitment last month of Claire Smith from Nabarro, the firm continues to respond to strong demand for its property services. Against the background of a difficult property market, it is particularly pleasing to be able to report that the firm goes from strength to strength.

Novice sailors do battle in the Solent. In blustery conditions off the Portsmouth coastline, a crew of valiant young men and women from FSP turned in a creditable performance on 11th June in the RBS Property Professionals Regatta. Dinner on board HMS Warrior the evening before did nothing to blunt the maritime prowess of senior crew member Marcus Francis (partner, Real Estate). In no time he had the crew leaping about the boat performing such technical tasks as “twizzling the rope around that round thing” and rescuing the spinnaker from a watery grave by the somewhat unconventional method of dangling one of the more junior (and hence expendable) members of the crew into the sea by his ankles. In the circumstances 16th place (out of 28) was pretty remarkable. Congratulations too to the team from Warings (a construction company based in Portsmouth) who managed first place in the coveted Field Seymour Parkes Trophy.
