Katie has a wealth of experience in the field of education on both professional and personal levels. Her genuine enthusiasm for this sector is longstanding and she uses her invaluable inside knowledge of the workings of independent schools and experience in providing advice to educational establishments to the full advantage of the firm’s education sector clients. Katie also holds a joint-honours degree in Education and provides training on employment issues. 

     

Ian Wood Smith

 

 

Ian Wood-Smith, Corporate

Ian has been advising clients in the education sector for many years.  He is a Governor of Bradfield College and has previously also been a Governor of a local prep school. Within his role as Senior Partner and from his base in the corporate team, Ian advises on a broad range of issues affecting educational establishments, including the increasing importance of good governance.

 

     

Louise Smyth

 

 

Louise Smyth, Employment

Louise joined the firm’s employment team in 2009 from national firm Eversheds, where she specialised in providing employment law advice to education and local authority clients.  Louise has articles published regularly for the Independent Schools Magazine and the Bursar’s Review and until recently was a Governor a well-known local prep-school.

     

Caroline Airey

 

 

Caroline Airey, Charities and not-for-profit

Caroline heads the firm’s charity and not-for-profit group and her involvement brings real value to the team’s charitable clients.  Caroline has advised a number of schools with charitable status on matters such as updating their governing documents, merging with other charitable schools and the disposal of the business and/or the land owned by charitable schools.

     

Julia Mactear

 

 

Julia Mactear, Property Litigation

Julia has been actively involved in advising a whole range of educational establishments for a number of years and has a keen interest in this area. She provides the firms’ clients with advice on a wide spectrum of matters with a particular focus on the litigation issues they face, including dealing with disability discrimination claims arising between schools and pupils, contractual disputes and property litigation issues. 

     

Richard Tweed

 

 

Richard Tweed, Commercial Property

Richard is a solicitor within the firm’s commercial property team and brings a valuable voice to the group in representing the extensive work that his team provides to our educational establishments. Richard assists the group’s clients with a wide range of property issues, particularly advising those with charitable status in the acquisition and disposal of property, including dealing with leasehold interests.
