FSP advises Reading Football Club as it enters new era
Field Seymour Parkes has advised Sir John Madejski in his sale of a controlling interest in Reading Football Club
It has been quite a year for Reading Football Club and its Chairman, Sir John Madejski. After a lacklustre start to the 2011/12 season, the Club ended the season in a blaze of glory that saw the Club promoted to the Premiership and safely entrusted to the new ownership of Thames Sports Investment Ltd, an investment vehicle owned by Anton Zingarevich. FSP’s links with Reading FC go back over many years and the firm was closely involved with the historic move from the old ground at Elm Park to the new Madejski Stadium in 1998 and we were delighted to play a key part in the successful negotiations that led to the change in ownership.
FSP’s legal team was led by corporate partner, Jeremy Parkes. Jeremy’s role in the Reading FC deal has been recognised by Sir John who said: “The advice and support we received from FSP throughout the sale process was invaluable and Jeremy managed a complicated and sensitive transaction in a highly efficient and effective manner to enable us to achieve completion and thereby secure the next stage in the development of Reading Football Club”.
The deal also involved members of FSP’s property team, led by partner Dean Bickford. FSP’s senior partner, Ian Wood-Smith, has stayed on as a director of Reading F.C.
