Employers who rely on EU national workers need to assess the risk to their business operation if those key employees choose to leave the UK or fail to register under the Scheme.

If your business recruits workers from Europe or overseas and will continue to do so after Brexit, then sponsorship registration must be obtained from the Home Office January 2021.  The sponsorship registration appears to be a very simple process, however the Home Office undertake thorough checks to ensure businesses are capable of maintaining the duties associated with the sponsor licence regime. We will look at the benefits of sponsorship and the pitfalls of maintaining the licence.

January 2021 also brings a new immigration system that affect all migrants to the UK including those from the EU.  We will look in detail at the new system and highlight other routes into the UK for migrants without the need for sponsorship.

Finally, we will look at the ‘right to work checks’ that were temporarily revised for the COVID19 pandemic and where the Home Office stands now on electronic checking and when checks must be undertaken for European nationals.

We will also provide an update on the latest Brexit developments.
