Charity begins in the workplace

Philip Stephenson, a Partner in FSP’s Corporate team, has advised Trustees of CP Limited, on its acquisition of Charity People Limited.

Established in 1990, Charity People is a recruitment and candidate placing company. It specialises in the non-profit sector and has placed over 30,000 candidates in many charitable organisations both in the UK and internationally including with Cancer Research, WWF, Amnesty International, Mind and the Scouts.

Trustees of CP Limited was formed for the purpose of the purchase and will hold its shares in Charity People on trust for its employees. By doing so, it also provided a friendly succession plan to facilitate the exit of Charity People’s founder.

Nick Billingham, the managing director of Charity People, said “In creating an employee ownership trust, the valued Charity  People business is now owned for the benefit of its employees. This has been in the planning stage for a while and is an exciting new chapter in the life of Charity People. It is envisaged that employee ownership of the business will raise further the participation and retention levels of our valued people and culture. I want to thank Philip and the rest of the FSP team. This was a new experience for myself and the deputy managing director, Neil Hogan, and Philip guided us throughout with clear advice and sound judgement.”

The team at FSP comprised Philip Stephenson (Partner, Corporate) and Charlotte Hudders (Paralegal, Corporate).
