We are a medium-sized, independent law firm based in Reading and we are looking for a Team Assistant to support the commercial, employment, immigration and litigation lawyers in our Business Services Team.

The Role:

Duties will involve a range of administration tasks such as:

  • filing, photocopying, scanning, sorting incoming and outgoing post/DX, and other document management tasks;
  • managing the compliance duties and procedures required to set up new clients and files;
  • assisting with document production – producing/amending, proof-reading and printing letters, contracts, court documents, forms, etc. and collating enclosures, etc.;
  • taking telephone messages and liaising with clients and others on straightforward issues;
  • assisting with billing and other accounting processes and file archiving;
  • assisting with marketing and event administration (mailshots, invitations to events, feedback collation, etc)

You may also be asked from time to time to get involved in other activities and projects within the team/firm.  There may also be opportunities for greater involvement in legal work in due course if the successful candidate has longer-term aspirations for a career in law.

Our preferred candidate will have at least 6 months’ office based administrative experience but graduate level candidates without experience will also be considered. You will need to able to demonstrate the following:

  • exceptional organisational skills and efficiency;
  • strong communication skills;
  • a high level of accuracy/attention to detail;
  • excellent written English skills (including a strong knowledge of grammar and punctuation);
  • strong IT skills, particularly of Microsoft Outlook, Word and Excel with good typing skills;
  • a professional attitude towards work.

This role will be principally office based, but there may be some scope for working from home (if desired) up to 2 days per week.

This role may be suitable for someone looking for a first position within a law firm as part of their career plans or someone with more office experience looking for a new challenge.

The Role

Our residential property team is currently a team of 8 and is made up of 2 partners, a senior associate, an associate, a chartered legal executive, a conveyancing executive, an experienced senior paralegal and a junior paralegal. We are actively looking to recruit another paralegal to join the team as well.

We cover all aspects of residential property from higher value sales and purchases with complex title issues, right through to first time purchases. We have members of the team who have a great deal of experience in new build properties which everyone in the team has benefited from, particularly as for some this is an area that can sometimes prove a challenge. We have a specialist team who deals with lease extensions and enfranchisement that you would be welcome to participate in. This means there is rarely a transaction one might come across where someone isn’t able to provide guidance or support. Our work comes from a variety of sources such that the team works on some really interesting transactions.

We hope that you will want to get involved in some of the business development activities that the team gets up to, which can range from regular smaller events with our referrers of work or participating in some of the larger events organised by the firm. We regularly have in house training that we do as a team and everyone is encouraged to seek out their own learning via external training as well.
