Our team covers a broad mix of corporate work with specialist private equity and venture capital, banking and insolvency expertise. Our clients come from many different sectors and vary in size from start-ups to multi-national businesses. While their typical deal value ranges from £5m to £25m, they also assist with smaller and larger deals and you can find some examples of their work here.

We currently have a rare opportunity for a property litigation paralegal. Previous paralegal experience is not essential for this role.

Our property litigation team acts for a range of commercial clients, organisations and individuals with disputes concerning property. The cases they manage include:

  • Disputes on restrictive covenants and minor land rights affecting development including easements, drainage, rights of way and profits a prendre,
  • The recovery of land from trespassers, tenants and persons unknown, including boundary disputes and adverse possession claims,
  • Contentious landlord and tenant issues, including the termination, surrender and renewal of commercial leases, rent reviews, break notices, lease forfeiture; rent and service charge arrears; service charge disputes,
  • The enforcement of securities on behalf of mortgagees and more.

They may also be involved in advising on property issues to other teams within the firm in relation to corporate deals and insolvency issues, agricultural disputes, construction disputes and more.

As a paralegal in the team you will support the other lawyers with a wide variety of tasks, giving you plenty of interesting experience across this varied caseload. This is an opportunity with real development potential so while initially you may have a lot of administrative work to do, as you grow in experience you will take on increasing amounts of responsibility and client contact – how far you can go depends on your talent and ability.

We think it’s a great starting point to build a quality legal career. We expect you to have a strong academic record, including a qualifying law degree or Graduate Diploma in Law, with good grades in land law and dispute resolution (ideally with electives or additional modules in at least one of those areas), together with excellent communication skills, initiative, drive, perseverance and a ‘can do’ attitude. Those qualities are more important to us than relevant paralegal experience, but some experience would be considered an advantage.

Whilst much of this role will be able to be performed remotely as a temporary adjustment during the current pandemic restrictions, there are elements which will require some office attendance. You should therefore be able to attend our office in Reading as required.

We are expanding our agricultural and rural land sector focus and as a result want to appoint a new solicitor within our Real Estate Team.

We are looking for someone with a real passion for rural land and those who own and occupy it. Someone who understands the deep personal associations and traditions involved, as well as the legal and commercial aspects of rural property ownership and use.

In this role, you will work closely with two Senior Associates who have been steadily building the practice and establishing strong relationships with a wide variety of landowners and occupiers, from tenant farmers to landed estates. With them, you’ll advise and assist on a wide range of matters connected with rural land including sales and acquisitions of rural property, varying from small plots of land to large farms and estates, drafting overage provisions, dealing with rural related tenancy issues including succession rights and surrenders, granting wayleaves and easements, and advising on potential property development including a variety of renewable energy projects.  You may, from time to time, also get involved in wider commercial property work supporting the rest of our highly regarded property team. As with all our lawyers, you’ll be encouraged to get involved in business development and other activities as part of growing the practice and your own skills and reputation and there are excellent prospects for career development / advancement in this role.

Ideally you will have gained a year or more of post qualification experience specifically in agricultural property, but we welcome applications from any solicitor (or equivalent)  with a genuine interest in this field who can demonstrate some solid commercial property experience, including those expecting to qualify by September 2021. You will receive good supervision and training, with the opportunity in time to build a name for yourself in a rewarding and specialist discipline.
