Our Real Estate Team is the largest in Reading and prides itself on providing City quality work outside London. Our exceptional lawyers handle a wide range of property transactions – including the acquisition and disposal of interests in real estate on individual sites and property portfolios, planning, environment and construction work, landlord and tenant matters and taxation and finance issues. We also have a team specialising in property litigation work for commercial and private clients.

As a paralegal in the team you’ll get great experience by assisting qualified lawyers across the transactional (non-contentious) teams. The role is more than simply helping them with administrative tasks, although some occasional admin work will be required. The majority of your time will be spent in client work including: reviewing and reporting on legal documents, undertaking research, preparing reports, drafting correspondence, undertaking company searches, client due diligence, on-line data room management, drafting and filing SDLT returns and assisting with (and, in time, managing) exchanges and completions on property transfers.  You could find yourself working on any type of property work happening within the team.  As your experience develops , you’ll have direct client contact and increasing responsibility.

We are expanding our agricultural / farming and estates sector work and as a result need to appoint a new solicitor within our Commercial Property Team. This is a varied and stimulating area of work, providing excellent prospects for job satisfaction and career development.

Working closely with two Senior Associates, you will advise and assist on a wide range of matters connected with rural land including sales and acquisitions of agricultural land and buildings, drafting overage provisions, farm-related tenancy issues including succession rights and surrenders, wayleaves and easements, single farm/basic payment subsidy transfers, property development/investment work and more.  You may, from time to time, also get involved in wider property work supporting the rest of the team. As with all our lawyers, you’ll be encouraged to get involved business development and other activities as part of growing the practice and your own skills and reputation.

The role is suitable for a newly qualified solicitor with good property experience gained during training, although specific agricultural experience is not essential.  You will, however, need to be able to demonstrate an interest in the sector and an affinity with our clients and contacts. You will receive good supervision and training, with the opportunity in time to build a name for yourself in a rewarding and specialist discipline.

Reporting to the Team Leader, you will be able to handle residential sales and purchases up to a high value with minimal supervision. To be considered for the role you will be experienced at conveyancing – a solicitor, legal executive or licensed conveyancer with at least 3 years’ (post qualified) experience. You will have demonstrated that you can work fairly independently, with good initiative and a high degree of IT literacy.  You will be able to show strong market knowledge and commerciality, with a solid awareness of the technological and other trends affecting the housing / conveyancing market.

We have an exciting vacancy for a tax solicitor (non-contentious) to join the FSP team within our highly regarded corporate group. The role will focus on all aspects of business taxation and will be to provide transactional support for the corporate, commercial and property teams in the firm.

Particular focus on:

  • Negotiating tax aspects of share and business purchases (including tax warranties and tax covenant);
  • Group restructurings/reorganisations;
  • Designing employee incentives;
  • Assessing income tax, CGT, VAT and stamp taxes on transactions; and
  • The application of SEIS and EIS to investments.

Our two-partner commercial dispute resolution team boasts some enviable blue chip clients and a caseload which includes complex domestic and cross-border disputes.  They are currently looking to recruit a solicitor level litigator to support them. As part of the team you’ll build your experience working collaboratively on some challenging disputes while also running your own caseload of more straightforward cases under appropriate supervision.

The role offers a significant level of variety and interest.  You will work across a range of sectors and work-types, which may include commercial contract disputes, construction, professional indemnity, insolvency, fraud, IP, international arbitration.  Clients will span many sectors, including automotive, financial services, leisure, fisheries, logistics and FMCG.

You’ll need to be resourceful, responsive and resilient, with the ability to grasp new challenges and areas of law quickly and accurately.  You’ll benefit from support and career development from highly regarded and experienced partners and our senior associate and access to cases of a quality hard to find elsewhere in Reading.  Ideally you will have at least 1 year’s post qualification experience in a litigation role, but we will look at strong NQs who gained a significant level of contentious experience during their training contract or in earlier paralegal roles, over 12 months or more.  Experience in each of the contentious areas we work in is not necessary, but you should have a strong grasp of general practice and procedure in general commercial litigation and an interest in a career which involves constant learning opportunities and new challenges.
