Our specialist lawyers help landlords and tenants who need advice on residential tenancies or on the many rights conferred by legislation on the owners of leasehold properties.  Significant legal rights have been granted to tenants over the past 20 years making it possible for the owners of flats to buy their freeholds (collectively with other flat-owners) or to extend their leases.  This process is commonly referred to as "enfranchisement" and it is an area in which FSP has a particular expertise.  We are members of the Association of Leasehold Enfranchisement Practitioners.

As well as dealing with collective enfranchisements, our specialist team can help clients with individual lease extensions, service charge disputes, management problems, tenancy agreements and all other legal issues relating to residential leases.

We also act frequently for landlords and tenants granting or taking up residential tenancies.  We can provide landlords with clear and well-drafted tenancy agreements and we are always happy to advise tenants on the terms of any agreement they are asked to sign.

Our areas of specialism include:

  • collective enfranchisement
  • individual freehold purchase
  • lease extensions
  • right to manage claims
  • dealing with absent landlords
  • landlord disputes and management problems
  • service charge issues
  • tenancy agreements
